Day 17

We had an amazing day at the fair!  Thank you to the auntie and moms that braved the weather and came out to help.

See you this evening at G.P.S's Meet the Teacher Night!

Days15 and 16

Well it was another Thankful Tuesday and this week your kids are thankful for...

1. Fashion;
2. Our upcoming trip to the Markham Fair;
3. That it's almost Halloween;
4.  Classmates; and
5. Shelter to live in.

With the exception of two students, who are still working on their tests, all math tests have been marked and sent home. I will briefly discuss the test tomorrow evening.

It looks like we will have a rainy day at the fair tomorrow.  Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather and that they walk with a packed lunch.

Tomorrow night will be "Meet the Teacher".  I am looking forward to meeting you!

Days 13 and 14

The students have been working hard to get our room and hallway ready for Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday.  Today we completed our Adjective Art and it looks AMAZING!

We have also been working on our graphs.  Just a reminder that our test will be on Tuesday.  If your child is able to complete the worksheets that I sent home earlier this week, they will have no problem writing the test.  I will try my best to send home tests by Wednesday.  Please sign and return them to school the following day.

Students are usually given approximately one hour to write in their Family Journal.  Since we were trying to complete our Adjective Art, I was only able to give the class approximately 40 minutes to write in their journals.

Thinking about joining Greensborough's Parent Council?  Take a look at this...

Benefits for children

• Children behave better and achieve more when their parents are involved in their education.

• Their parents will receive advice and information about how to support their learning.

Their concerns can be resolved more quickly when their parents have a positive relationship with school staff.

Benefits for parents

• Parents have a forum in which they can come together, share ideas and put forward their views to the headteacher and governing body of their school.
• Their active involvement in decision-making is increased, fostering a culture of ownership and participation.

• They get the support and advice they need to help and encourage their children with their learning.
• They have more information about their children's education and the quality of that education.

• They can build their own confidence, skills and social networks, leading to personal development and increased employability.

Council meets every third Thursday of the month in our school library.  The next meeting will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 7 p.m.

Monday is a P.A day, so no school for the kids.

Have a great weekend!

Days 10 and 11

It's another busy week ahead of us!    We are reviewing graphs for the math test coming up next week.  Yesterday, I sent home a letter with review worksheets attached.  Your child should be able to complete these worksheets independently.  If they are having trouble, please let me know.

We are also working on our mural for the Markham Fair.  Our mural focuses on the love of reading.  I hope that you are able to visit the fair with your family.

Please be sure to go look at your child's agenda everyday.  Some students are walking around with papers that were handed out two weeks ago.  Remember, they are still young and will not always remember to tell you that there is something in their agenda that you need to look at.

It is Thankful Tuesday!  This week your kids are thankful for...

1. My mom and dad for "borning"my baby brother;

2. My grandma and aunt;

3.  My classmates;

4.  Pets;

5. Money; and

6. Everything around me.

Days 7-9

We have had a busy week!  Students learned the importance of choosing the "right fit book".

It was wonderful to watch kids the following day taking care in picking the right book for their reading level.

In Language, students are also learning about adjectives.

After reading this story, students had to think of 14 adjectives to describe themselves.  To help your child, select a few objects in your home and ask them to use adjectives to describe them.  I have also been reading with students  and hope to send home their reading bags next week.

Students are continuing to work on their data management skills, in Math.  This week they worked on Bar and Line Plot graphs.

Students will have a Graphing test on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.  I will be sending home study sheets sometime next week.

In Mrs. Pegg's Science class, the students are learning about liquids and solids.  Can your child explain to you the difference between a liquid and a solid?

In Mr. Burrell's Music class, they are learning two new songs.

This week, many of the students were able to finish their Picasso inspired self portraits.  We can't wait for you to see them on "Meet the Teacher Night" (Thursday, September 29, 2016)!

Just as a reminder, we are asking that all parents stay out of our hallways.  If you need to drop something off or your child has left something on their hook, please go to the office.

If you have not signed up for remind.com, please do so, as soon as possible.  See link in our blog's tabs over on the left hand side.  When signing up, please use your child's name so that I know which family I am communicating with.  Thank you!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Day 6

Today students wrote their first spelling test.  I was very impressed!  Spelling tests do not need to be signed or returned to school.  I forgot to return their spelling homework books and hope to do so tomorrow.

All of the students have presented their "Me Bags" and the oral rubric has been sent home.  Please sign and return it to school.

We are going to the Markham Fair!  Please sign and return the permission form as soon as possible.

Every Tuesday, is Thankful Tuesday in room 124.  Here is a short list of some of the things your kids were thankful for...

1. school;
2. friends; and
3. my parents for having me so that I could make them smarter :-).

Never a dull moment.
